# Overall Goal of the Design To make the space feel different from both our normal house setup and from Sabbat. The Sabbat set was not designed with the same ethos that the City of Providence's set was designed. We still created separate spaces with different vibes, but the spaces were not designed from day one with a specific feeling in place. The set design of this game was created with a specific feeling for each space set from day 1. The floorplan of the game space breaks down physically into three separate areas: the theater, the Library, and the craft studio. This leaves the kitchen as the main OOC area, and the bar, with views of two of the three game spaces, being used primarily as an out of the way location for facilitators to observe PCs while not hovering. ## The Theater Room: The Elysium or Seat of Power Originally attended to be Fort Pitt, the historic fort built during the French and Indian War in what is now Point State Park, but throughout the length of the chronical, the space served as a stand in for any of the Elysiums of the city. #### Color Scheme: Red and gold. The colors here was the most generically "vampire game" in appearance. So often red and black are overused in vampire games because red is blood and black is *darkness* and vampires are dark creatures and they drink blood. With the use of red in this design, along with gold accents, candles, and red and soft white indirect lighting, was to give the impression of royalty or an exclusive and bougie club. #### Main Focus: The Elysium Three, three sabbat vampires entrapped in diamond boxes forever trapped to be driven insane by their hunger as an example of Prince Lynn's depravity. What a better way to demonstrate the Mad Prince's insanity than to by putting his torture victims in the middle of what is otherwise a bougie and plush club? The boxes were made similarly to the diamond boxes used during the I Killed the Prince games at PAX, using PVC piping wrapped in saran wrap, but instead of a 3D box, they were flat and between the layers of saran wrap were silhouettes made of painted muslin. During the standoff between the court and Prince Lynn, the Elysium Three were ripped out of their boxes and were hung behind Lynn at "PPG Place." #### Changes or Variations: During Act 2, the gathering in May of 2023 was hosted by The Family Man, partially to flex his own power. For this game, the Elysium Three were removed and the focal point of the room became a chair covered in gold fabric, where The Family Man held his own court. The lighting was also changed, removing red bulbs and just lighting the room with the indirect soft white light. Following Lynn's defeat (2024), the room shifted and was far less dramatic. Without the Elysium Three, the focus of the room changed, becoming unbalanced. The closest thing to a new focus was a chair set up as a throne. This chair was backlit with a lighting device that could change colors. This light was mostly blues, but for the gathering hosted by Brittney in February 2024, the lights were bright pink. #### Fun Minor Detail: In the fireplace in this room was filled with candles, some of which were in candle holders. One of the candle holders was a golden skull, to represent the vampires "inner nature." For Acts 1 and 2, a mirror was placed at the back of the fireplace and the candle holder was facing the mirror, so as to reflect the skull, the inner nature being hidden. For Act 3, the candle holder was turned, to face out to reflect that the vampire's inner nature is now on full display. ## The Library: The Main Gathering Space As the largest of the three spaces, the library acted as the main room and gathering space. This space was the most generic of the three rooms, with the main vibe being a luxurious sitting and dining room. #### Color Scheme: Blue and silver, with some purple. The "typical" vampire colors were avoided here, attempting to come across more modern with clean lines and shiny metals. The lighting in this area was more difficult to achieve, using the spotlights over the bookcases as the primary light source, with a few blue and red accent lights placed next to each other so they could blend into a purple light. #### Main Focus: The dining room table in the middle of the room became the de facto location for Primogen meetings to be held. Unlike the usual set up where there is a separate room for Primogen meetings to be held in private, this forced the meetings to occur in the midst of the rest of the gathering, allowing non-officers to participate, as well as keeping the meetings short. #### Changes and Variations: This space changed by the props staff the least between sessions. This was also the space that players felt the most comfortable in, and where players might make their own additions to the set. ## The Craft Studio: The Back Office The back office was probably my favorite of the three spaces. The goal for this room was to be that room in a disreputable restaurant in a movie where four goons are playing poker and watching security cameras. #### Color Scheme: Dark green and other earthy tones. The goal was to invoke the stereotypical gentleman's smoking room or club. Most of the tables were covered in dark green table cloths to give the impression of a card table, and faux brick/brick backdrops covered 2 of the 4 walls of the room. Many of the smaller accessories in the room were shades of brown. The lighting consisted of warm white lights, and a variable number of green accent lights. #### Main Focus: The craft studio did not have a single focal point, but rather a few motifs. Clocks: To get across a sense of impending doom and the ever ticking inevitability of the passage of time, the room was filled with clocks. It also gave the space a bit of a manic look. Pittsburgh: There were multiple depictions of the city in the space. On the desk was a 3D printed map set up for the prince to be constantly looking over. There was also an map copied from a 19th century street map of Pittsburgh up on the wall. With both versions of Pittsburgh maps, it shows both the connection to the past and a thought towards the future. The 3D map especially gives the sense *Author:* [[Shannon McGovern]] *© Copyright 2023 Spectacle Ink. All rights reserved.*
