1. You didn't know what you were doing when you stole the small, ancient key from a safe in the Chantry. You owed a shady Setite a massive Boon, and when she called it in for you to steal a small artifact, you were only too happy to oblige. After all, most Thaumaturgical artifacts are junk, the real power is always held by the Magus who crafted them. Trading a useless trinket for a chance to get out from under a dangerous debt seemed like a miracle, until you found out that the key in question was actually used to bypass the extensive Thaumaturgical protections on the Prince. You didn't realize at the time what you were doing, but if anyone finds out you stole the access key, you're definitely going to get blamed for the whole thing.
2. With the former Keeper dead, someone is going to have to stand up and take the position. You're obviously the best choice, given that the protections for the Elysium are primarily Thaumaturgical in nature. Convince the claimants to make you their choice for Keeper of Elysium.
3. The Firstborn are a bunch of arrogant fools, but it's impossible to deny how powerful they are. Formalize some kind of alliance with that Faction, preferably one which specifies that Argonauts should be the first choice for any open offices.
