The [[Wend]] are not made, they spring forth from [[Celestial Empress|Her Majesty's]] deeds. Hierophant was once a typical scholar, a man of no great significance or repute. Legends claim he discovered something, some deep fact, about the [[Leviathan's Corpse]], and that discovery changed him on a fundamental level. Though he never once came within the Rough Beast's orbit, Hierophant displayed the powers of the greatest and most terrible Priests, devouring planets and performing grand sacrifices to fuel impossible weapons. His personal vessel, taken from a devoured glitterworld, became Maw Station, the most feared weapon in the Corpse's service. When the Empress finally strode the void to bring him low, it was only after centuries of pleading from Her [[Voidstalker Corps]]. Some claim, though they do so far from the ears of Her servants, that She waited as long as She did out of fear. The theory held by the Voidstalkers themselves, is that She simply prefers not to intercede with the fallout from Her old battles. The galaxy is cursed by the Leviathan's Corpse, and She has no desire to alleviate that curse. As a Wend, Hierophant is Her preferred answer to powers beyond mortal comprehension. Sages from the forgotten mists of the Empire's dawn, Children of the Void, things too strange for names, Hierophant is the servant She deploys against the Other. In many ways, despite his Priesthood, Hierophant is among the least feared of the Wend. Most of the galaxy regards him as a mystery, something beyond comprehension himself. Those few who understand his nature do so briefly, for they are his prey. It is rumored by some that the very strangest powers of the galaxy, those beyond even Her ability to conceive, receive not his wroth, but his largesse, but if such a power exists it has remained obscure. Though [[Maw Station]] worships Hierophant and follows his teachings, he has had no direct contact with them since She broke his power. Some believe that this survival is what secured his relatively rapid promise of loyalty to Her empire, but there is no proof for their claims. It is true that Hierophant spent barely a thousand years hidden away after being made a Wend, by far the shortest span before entering open service, but no one can say for certain why that is. He has no communication with his former flagship, or indeed very little with anyone at all. If Hierophant knows anything about this temple or its contents, he's being characteristically close-lipped. Though Maw Station has come to spread his word, the man himself appears not to be making act of presence. Fortunately, eons ago, before he was taken by the Empress, Hierophant left behind teachings to guide his People. Perhaps, they will prove useful once more. ## Hierophant's Teachings 1. To serve the Leviathan is not to serve the Corpse, though both are worthy of service. 2. All things in nature must change, including the nature of change. 3. Sacrifice is inherent to growth. 4. Everything ends.
