Goals: 1. Pass a resolution through the Myriadic Council recognizing House Overbrook as a Great House. 2. Use your position as a Councilor to further enrich yourself and, if there's time, your Holding. 3. Spread your resources around to keep any one of the Metropolitans from getting the temple alone. You are Governor Overbrook, the "Oldest Money." While perhaps exaggerated for effect, you have to admit that the nickname isn't entirely wrong. Even by the standards of [[Metropole]], your four million years of life make you impossibly, ridiculously old. You were part of Metropole's first generation of immortals, and the only one to survive to present day. You became Governor before any of your current crop of officers was born, and have led your Holding to ever-greater wealth since. Though, inexplicably, these qualifications have not seen you elevated from Governor to Great House. There is more to you, though, than the power of rest-and-vest. You weren't the last survivor of your generation by accident, nor is it an accident that you've held power over one of the galaxy's most prized gems the entire time. The reason Metropole continues to grow, despite the endless challenges and threats, is that you make it. Whether it's wrangling titans of industry, shorting global economies, or simply paying massive bribes, you spend every waking moment removing obstacles and keeping your people from destroying each other over petty slights. You've come to the [[Council of Chains]] for two reasons. First, your informants passed word that this backwater planet holds a temple and, within that temple, an artifact older than the [[Celestial Empire]] itself. You have no idea what it might be, but if any citizen of Metropole ends up with sole control, there's going to be a civil war. In general, you try to avoid those. Second, you believe it's time for you to join the galaxy's most elite ranks -to be recognized as the founder of Great House Overbrook. There are many ways for a Great House to be founded, but being officially recognized by a Myriadic Council is one of the best. ## Asset: [[Powers that Be]] As a Governor, your power over your Holding is very nearly absolute. Whatever you choose to do, and however you choose to do it, so long as you commit neither Treason nor Heresy, it is within your rights. You have the ability to appoint [[Officers]], give those Officers orders, and make any decision regarding the management or administration of your Holding. You act as the final authority on what is and is not allowed or required, with no appeal and no oversight. ## Lien: [[Heavy the Head]] There is no moral way to have the power of life and death over billions of people. As such, there is no such thing as a good person who is also the Governor of a significant Holding. Whenever you are given the choice to further your personal goals, you must attempt to do so even at the expense of those around you.
