Goals: 1. Get paid to negotiate on someone's behalf. 2. Uncover as many lies and deceptions as you can, and use those findings to your advantage. 3. Try to get the contents of the temple declared sacred, with no one allowed access. You are Negotiator Narberth, the "Auditor." Where other Negotiators specialize in overvaluing their own positions, or undervaluing others', you have built a twenty-thousand-year career on understanding exactly how much every party is willing to lose, and how much they need to win. Yes, your approach to deal-making has been criticized as "artless" and "a lifeless collection of spreadsheets," but such things have never bothered you. When the stakes are at their highest, the "everybody walks away angry" approach to negotiation tends to lead to superweapon deployment. Your approach, "everyone walks away kind of bored" may not be sexy, but results are their own kind of style. There is more to you, though, than a sober manager of ways and means. You don't make your negotiations exciting, because you like to do the exciting parts before anyone gets to the table. Your due diligence is the stuff of fiduciary legend. You dig and poke and prod until the knots of falsehood give way before the dexterity of your red pen. Where the greatest investigators and legal minds fail, your keen eye and insatiable love of truth succeed. When the time comes to negotiate there's no drama, because no one has room to maneuver. Nothing makes a point like a fact in black-and-white. You've come to the [[Council of Chains]] because you don't think anyone has their head on straight right now. Everyone in your Holding is talking about the temple, what they're going to do with it, and how it's going to change their life. Somehow, none of them seem to care that they've been getting different messages about what it contains. Even the Governor is inexplicably talking about a shared ownership model. You want the temple kept closed and untouched, at least until you've had time to do a thorough review and figure out what's going on. ## Asset: [[Soft Words and Sharp Smiles]] You would never be so crass as to use the "carrot and stick" approach. You don't bother to convince, because you know that all you need to do is explain. Your requests are so reasonable that no one would ever think of actually *arguing* with you. When you're involved in a [[Negotiation]], your side gains one advantage for every participant on the other side who is not a martial officer. ## Lien: [[Off to a Bad Start]] Arguably the worst thing a negotiator can do is call themselves a negotiator. It puts everyone on guard, and generally makes the job much harder. Unfortunately, your title is official, public, and undeniable. You try to rise to the challenge, but it creates a surprising amount of trouble. Your side must expend one resource (raw, refined, or fuel) to allow your participation in a [[Negotiation]], representing overcoming those difficulties.
