*Scientists* care first and foremost for their craft. In the worlds of Myriad, science is not a unified doctrine, and even the very notion of the scientific method is only considered valid in some circles. For each individual, their idea of science is deeply informed by their local culture and history, and their pursuit is according to the values they hold. Even so, there remains a power in the idea of science and the pursuit of knowledge. Wisdom, scientists tend to agree, is best left to the wise. They concern themselves with the secrets of their craft, and how best those secrets may be teased out.
Scientists interact with one another because they need *someone* to be impressed by their latest creation, and laypeople are usually too ignorant to know when they should clap. They don't necessarily feel professional respect for one another, but at the least they certainly feel a professional *disrespect*. Scientists often find themselves on the opposite sides of conflict, bringing their best weapons to bear. If those weapons happen to leave a survivable gap, well, that's something only another scientist would know how to find.
